The Outsiders 

Unit Overview  

In this unit, I read the novel called The Outsider I made a Reading Circle in my group. We have our own job to complete in every each chapter The jobs were Summarizer, Literary Luminary, Word Wizard, Connection Maker, and Discussion Director. Everyone has to do different jobs each time. Every job focused on a different standard or skill. At the end of the unit, I had to take an exam and had a final project to complete. There are four choices 1. a wanted poster for one of the characters, 2. a soundtrack of five song selections for the story, 3. an interview with one of the characters, or 4. a book jacket with original chapter titles. Each student had to choose two pieces of work. 

Enduring Understanding

  • How does wealth (or poverty) affect a person’s social status?

    • Wealth and poverty affect a person's social status a lot. Nowadays, money is important for lives. It can buy good things for us; health, facilities and education. People that have lots of money spend it on good opportunities in their lives. To have a good education is the door to a good job. A good job brings people to a better social class. Poor people have a little money or some have no money for living. They struggle for food each day. It is hard to study in a good school so it makes them stay in a lower social class automatically. 

  • Does family always have to be made up of relatives?

    •  

      No, a family is not always made up of relatives because a family can be made up with friends or a people that you love. Also, a single family is always formed from two people a women and a men who are a couple and they are not relatives.  

Strengths

Key Ideas and Details: Recall and summarize the key ideas and important details from the text. I think I can remember most of the event what happened in the story and be able to tell who is who.  

Areas for Improvement

Comprehension and Communication: Participate in meaningful discussions with peers in which you analyze and share ideas about the text. I think my group didn't do a lot of communicating so we didn't what is other people idea, so we don't know what to improve.
